Surviving After a Disaster

While all many people comfortably lead their typical lives today, it is probably true that a few of them have the basic survival and preparedness tips and tricks. Many catastrophes both man-made and natural are hitting the world from the left, right, and center, rendering everyone susceptible.

In fact, never has the world had such a massive number of people, a fact that further heightens the probability of succumbing to a calamity.

Today’s mainstream media comprise tons of tragedy-laced news; nuclear devices gone awry, hurricanes hitting Asia, sudden volcanic eruptions killing thousands, collapsed apartments, terror attacks, etc. Depending on the scenario and the magnitude of the attack, the subsequent survival and preparedness tips will utterly come in handy.

Practice First Aid Techniques

Thankfully, some worthy initiatives driven by informative and generous individuals are continually taking it upon themselves to impact the general public on general survival tactics.

First aid is typically the first means of treating a person and following a tragedy, and you must learn to use them to your advantage. Primitive conditions are typical after a crisis and while the Paramedics will be miles away, use each of your high school first aid skills to contain the situation.

Mental Preparedness

Train your mind to assume that the disaster has happened to learn the best way to adjust to its potentially harmful physical, mental and emotional injuries. Remember that survival comprises 90% mental thus the way you react when it strikes will determine your fate.

Additionally, keep calm and avoid unnecessary panicking while spreading facts and not fear. With your intuition, try figuring out the safest route out of the crisis. If possible, use any available resource to ensure that together with your colleagues, you safely evacuate the location.

Have a Practical Plan

After a disaster, your mind will automatically begin racing. The best way to stay calm as you await a rescue team is to draft a plan that will ensure your safety.

You can come up with even five plans that will cater for your wellness while the situation prevails. The plan will be the first remedy towards taming the situation and will significantly cut down on the severe effects of unnecessary freaking.

Maintain Proper Hygiene

One of the deadliest killers, besides hunger, are the diseases resulting from improper hygiene. Keep yourself safe by maintaining acceptable hygienic standards, mostly what armed forces are trained to do while in the field.

Stay Warm, Find Food and Water

One of the essential tips during a catastrophe is the art of learning to stay healthy despite the prevailing conditions. Even if it would mean using ulterior means, strive to stay healthy and warm by lighting a fire and finding something to eat.

Purify your drinking water as well as staying healthy will keep you going while taming the crisis.

There are great tricks to stay safe. Disasters tend to hit everywhere and come in different types and volumes. While keeping everyone safe is the principal aim of learning disaster preparedness skills, remember that staying safe involves the mind, the body as well as what’s remaining around you.
